about

If you've ever read or know of "The Snow Queen," this song is inspired by that lovely but haunting story. I used that story as a metaphorical framework because I think it really encapsulates what it feels like to struggle with mental illness: the feeling of seeing everything around you differently, and even though you know deep down it's not right, you can't detach yourself from it. So this is Shards of Glass :)

lyrics

The snow is falling faster now/Shattered pieces as she takes her final bow/Why me, why was I chosen?/I can’t see, the embers have frozen/Blindly, with eyes wide open/Meant to be broken

I’m in a forest caught on fire/Flames not of light, but grave desire/Why here, why did she do this?/Of anger and vanity’s bruise?/Taken, torn at the roots and meant to be useless

I’m a hurricane caught off track/Swirling white and empty black/Shards of glass flying like snowflakes coloring my sight and

Oh oh oh oh oh/Oh oh oh oh oh/Oh oh oh oh oh/Oh oh

The snow is falling faster now/I’m the queen of everything, but yet I can’t see how/To break free from this binding/Just breathe into the light and/Empty out of sight/What wrong and what’s right?

Oh oh oh oh/Oh oh oh oh/Oh oh oh oh/Oh oh oh/Oh oh oh oh/Oh oh oh oh/Oh oh oh/Oh
